Mr & Mrs Skinner’s wedding at Orchardleigh Estate in Somerset
I was pleased to be invited to paint in watercolour at this Somerset Wedding. On Friday 4th August 2022, Sam and Amanda became Mr & Mrs Skinner at Orchardleigh Estate.
Sam and Amanda had pulled out all the stops to create an impressive and magical day. With endless painting possibilities, I was spoilt for choice as to which aspects of the wedding to record. Ergo, I was especially glad that we had arranged that I would paint two pictures during the course of the wedding! (Although I, nevertheless, still wished that I could have slowed down time and painted at least six more big watercolours during the day!)

When planning this first painting I was at first concerned with getting a good angle on the huge white floral display around the ‘altar’, positioning myself so that it and the bride would show well against the distant trees.
The splash of colour made by a swathe of red Crocosmia (Montbretia) also drew my eye,
However, having happened upon Cupid with his bow and arrow, how could I not include him in a wedding painting?! Cupid became the anchor point for this watercolour.
An interesting threatening sky was great for making all the white in this wedding pop. If you look closely, you will spot the bride twice. I have shown her first in the white carpeted ‘isle’, with her long veil billowing impressively in the breeze, and again at the ‘alter’.

The Somerset Wedding Venue
The magnificent wedding venue that is Orchardleigh. The ceremony took place out on the elegant garden lawn. Guests enjoyed a panoramic view of Somerset countryside.

I hope I get the opportunity to paint Official Sentionent’s dramatic and colourful performances some other time because I was in the wrong spot to be able to catch them at Friday’s wedding. The floristry was amazing and I must ask who was responsible for all those gorgeous white flowers everywhere.
